most of my work up until this point has been all over the place. my brain likes to flit from here to there, without any regard to my sanity. it's all rather rude. so lately, i've decided to expand on some of the ideas i've gotten and finally work on series. it's about time for some cohesion.

i want to make a group of four small canvases... each with a woman from a different era, and incorporate vintage lace. multimedia is a whole new terrain for me, and a pretty exciting one. it's been interesting to see what happens when you keep pushing yourself and doing more, and more, and more...

Photobucket

a friend of mine was telling me about how some guys would use lace in their paint jobs on their old school cars as a stencil... which got me to thinking. somehow, the word "stencil" brings to mind middle aged women with kitty sweaters, stenciling teddy bears on step stools. for some reason, i had stored those images, and the idea of ever stenciling anything far back into the deep, dark depths of my subconscious. but the mention of classic cars sparked my interest, and using spray paint to stencil made it seem a bit more gnarly.

but then things got out of hand and i started spray painting everything in my general vicinity. like this lacey remnant i kept intending to make a necklace out of...

then i started sewing beads and there's a whole plethora of sequins and jewels and scraps... i might have to invest in a kitty sweater of my own 'cause i'm feeling crafty as shit.

i told myself that i was going to stop frivolously spending my money on silly things i don't really need! that i refuse to be a part of this mindless consumer society anymore!

well . . . i kinda sorta lied.

i guess that by never actually going out to stores anymore had me thinking that maybe, just maybe my shopping had been curbed. however, i just ended up buying everything online. it's just ... so damn easy! but hey, at least the money i've been spending lately is going to private sellers on etsy and ebay, right??

two recent online purchases that i'm particularly stoked about are this lovely skirt from goodwiu vintage on etsy...

goodwiu's etsy store

and this handpainted totebag by irana. i've been following her work on flickr for about a year now, so i was excited to see that she was selling totebags with her art on them. puuurfect!

so will i ever give this greedy, consumerist culture of ours a big ol' finger in the face?? probably not. shopping for sweet loot is just too much fun.

so this is my very first post.

i'm a little intimidated... tumblr has been my only means of blogging, and i usually use it to post pictures i find that inspire me. sooo, on here i plan to be more personally prolific! i know, i know, you can hardly hide your excitement.

so until something insightful comes to mind (which is rarely the case), i will leave this post with a photo (which i actually took!).

my flickr

and so, i bid you adieu.
