my life lately

Making buttons, sending buttons. putting stamps on things and whatnot. does it make me a nerd because I love putting things in envelopes, figuring out shipping costs, and affixing the allotted amount of stamps on little envelopes? Perhaps.

Getting ready to start on the cuteboyswithcats totebags!! Very excited. The idea is to make one big huge block stamp with the logo on it, and then use it to make the totes AND tees! DOOP!

Now all i have to do is find some fiiine ass quality wholesale tee-shirts...

Working with oils. FINALLY got my very own easle! I mean, I feel kinda legit right now. Plus sparkledeer finally has its chance to shine.

It seems though that ever since i set up this little scene, the cats cannot resist jumping up and moving things around. maybe they're just helping me out with the compostion.

In other news, I am so so happy for my sister and her husband gabriele! they just got
hitched this past weekend and i've never seen Sarah so happy in my entire life.
AAAhhhhhh, ze love!
(and ze champagne)

Oil Inspiration

I've been painting for 5 years on and off now with acrylics, just kind of
figuring things out as I go. But this semester, I FINALLY got an oil  painting
class! It's pretty intimidating and I can tell my teacher is going to be
pushing me really hard because he can tell I've been painting for a bit.
I can't wait to see what I'll be able to do after a few months of this class busting my ass.

Here are some oil painters i found on deviantart that are so good i die a little.

So good it's scary. All of his paintings are hyper-realistic, and earth-shattering.
(in acrylic, btw.. which is considered 'inferior' to oils. go figure.)

Her understanding of fabric is amazing.

Just, so pretty. The way she captures the light though her hair.. ugh.

So much movement and emotion.

Just a few brushstrokes, and yet a complete understanding of form.

Ugh, C'MON! You can almost feel the sheets on your own skin!

Graceful and emotive.

These look like they could be from photographs, which I'm trying to
keep away from in my own work... but still really nice work.

I simply cannot take how skilled this guy is. If you get a chanc, check out
every one of his works. They are all equally amazing.

I would never expect to get to this level in my own painting, but it never hurts
to aim high.  There are a few mental blocks I can't seem to break through in my
own work, like understanding human form more completely, and seeing things how
they really are... instead of how I think I see them. I guess that's a pretty common
problem for artists in the beginning. We'll see! Things can only improve from here on out.

Happy Sunday!
